POP Bus Service
Croydon Council runs a bus known as the "POP Service" which travels around the borough offering key services to older people in the comunity.
At present this is a one-year project and the success of the bus will be determined by the improvements made to the lives of older people in Croydon.
'POP' stands for Partnership for Older People and from 1 May 2007 the POP Service has been out and about in various locations around Croydon, making sure that all parts of the borough are covered. The bus is purpose-built for delivering services and we will continue to find suitable venues were the POP bus can visit.
Service areas
People from different service areas will be on the bus or at various locations on different days, including some evenings and weekends, offering information and services such as:
- health MOTs and medicines management
- keeping well in old age
- advice on 'what's on'
- falls prevention
- specialist equipment and adaptations
- caring for carers
- staying safe and secure
- benefits advice
- housing advice
- nail cutting service
The weekly programme showing when and where the POP Service will be near you will be available in places such as:
- local library
- neighbourhood centre
- clinic
- council office
- GP surgery
Or contact the POP Service at Croydon Neighbourhood Care Association to find out where it is.
The POP service was created in response to a request by older people in the borough and with a grant from the Department of Health. We are working in partnership with the local voluntary sector and with Croydon Primary Care Trust to bring services, information and advice to older people in their local communities.
