Assessment
To apply for sheltered housing, you need to complete a Housing Register Application Form (form HAF1) and a self assessment form. Once these forms are returned we will assess your suitability for sheltered accommodation. You can obtain the forms from housing reception at Taberner House or by telephoning us.
A financial assessment is also included to see if applicants are entitled to any help with the charges.
Eligibility
Sheltered housing is usually open adults over the age of 60 years, following an assessment of need. However, applicants under the age of 60 will be assessed on an individual basis.
Referrals for sheltered housing can come from many sources including home carers, occupational therapists, doctors, healthcare workers, care managers and other agencies such as Age Concern.
Waiting times
There is a substantial queue of people waiting for re-housing and applicants are place in bands to reflect their housing need. They are re-housed in date order. The length of time you will wait for an offer will depend on your position in the band and your choice of sheltered schemes. You can see a list of schemes by clicking on "Sheltered Housing Schemes".
