Produce a very good and accessible handbook on benefits called the "Disability Rights Handbook".
Independent Living Fund
Respects and supports disabled people's individual requirements for personal assistance and independent living, they will be able to offer advice to help you live independently.
Housing Options
Offer a specialist independent housing advisory service for people with learning disabilities, their relatives and professionals.
Housing providers
The first two organisations are registered housing associations that specialise in accommodation for people with learning disabilities. They operate over most of England.
Advance Housing and Support Ltd
Provides support and accommodation to people with learning disabilities. Also has a shared ownership scheme for people with learning disabilities.
New Era Housing Association Ltd
Registered housing association specialising in housing for people with learning disabilities.
Golden Lane Housing
Established by Mencap to develop property based initiatives to meet the needs of people with learning disabilities.
Renaissance Social Housing Ltd
A not-for-profit company which provides housing nationally for people with learning disabilities.
Housing Corporation
Provides local housing association contacts.
Home Ownership
Values into Action (VIA)
Non-profit organisation campaigning for citizenship for and with people who have learning difficulties. They produce "My Home, My Life" by Ken Simons,which explains the different approaches to home ownership for people with learning disabilities.
National Housing Federation
Produces a simple illustrated form of lease for people with learning disabilities and publish "Ownership Options - A guide to home ownership for people with learning disabilities." They also publish a directory of housing associations.
Adult Placement Services
National Association of Adult Placement Services
Publish a directory of adult placement schemes. See also Adult Placement Support Unit.
Trusts and wills
Mencap
Publish a booklet called "Leaving money by will to people with learning disabilities."
Mencap services include residential, education and employment services, leisure opportunities and individual support and advice for people with a learning disability, their families and carers.
Mind
Mind publish a similar booklet called "Making Provision" which covers different types of trusts.
Mind works for everyone in emotional distress, campaigning for rights and developing locally based services.
