The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. The CQC regulate health and adult social care services, whether provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations.

All care homes, whether council-run or in the private and voluntary sector, must meet the registration requirements of the Care Quality Commision.

Care homes must use our Individual Placement Agreement (IPA) or, for residents not funded by us, the homes' own form of contract, which is signed by the resident and the home. This agreement covers the terms of the placement.

You can search for care homes on the Care Quality Commission website by need and location.  You can also search for a home by its star rating.  After a key inspection by CQC, all care services receive a quality rating from 0-3 stars. This represents the range of poor through to excellent services.   A link to the CQC website can be found on the right of this page.
