Children with disabilities

Calleydown residential and day care

Calleydown is a seven bedroom residential unit managed by Social Services. It provides overnight stays and day care for a number of children and young people up to 18 years old who have learning difficulties and multiple disabilities.

Calleydown is not suitable for children or young people who have only a physical disability or whose needs are primarily medical.

The unit is situated in New Addington and is open every day of the year except Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Staff try to provide an atmosphere in which children and young people feel as relaxed as they would visiting relatives or friends.

Particular emphasis is placed on the development of play, and the unit has both indoor and outdoor special play facilities. Regular outings are organised by staff and each child and young person has a named key worker and their own care plan.

Special placements

Where it is not possible to meet a family's needs using the above service, a special placement may be considered. This could range from holidays to short stays in highly specialised units such as Ruth Garwood Lodge, a local unit for those who have complex health needs including nursing care.
