London Borough of Croydon

Rightfully Yours

Who are they?

Rightfully Yours is a free service for children and young people in or from Croydon between the ages of 0-25.

They are not part of the council, but part of the children's charity, Action for Children.

How Rightfully Yours can help

They can help children and young people who are:

  • in care - Croydon Council is responsible for looking after you. You might be living with your foster family, in a residential placement such as a children's home or secure unit, or in hospital. Wherever you live Rightfully Yours will meet with you if you want them to work with you.
  • entering care - the council may be working with you and your family and you might be placed with a foster family soon or already be in a foster or residential placement.
  • leaving care - you are 16 or over, have been in care with Croydon social services and now are entitled to a social work service with the leaving care and independence team.
  • in need - your parents or carers are still responsible for your care but Croydon Council has a responsibility to share some of that support. The council is likely to make assessments at this time to see that your needs are being met.

What Rightfully Yours does?

They takes referrals from you directly or from someone on your behalf.

They can advocate on your behalf on a wide range of issues such as:

  • your wishes and feelings not being heard
  • finding out more about your rights
  • feeling unhappy about the decisions made about your life
  • making a complaint.

They organise conferences and meetings between young people and the council (e.g., housing and social care services) so information can be shared and people can understand more about each other.

They organise get-togethers and groups for young people.

How to contact Rightfully Yours?

A child or young person can phone them on their freephone number or text the mobile so they can call you back. If they cannot answer the phone, please leave a message and they will contact you within 24 hours of receiving your message and will arrange to meet with you within three days.

If you are a professional please use the office number; the freephone number is for children and young people only.
