Adoption support organisations

Adoption UK offers a wide range of advice and information on adoption. They also have a helpline (11am - 4pm Monday-Friday).

British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) offers a wide range of advice and information on adoption and fostering.

General Register Office - Adoptions Section maintains an adoption contact register.

Inter-country Adoption Centre (IAC) can offer further advice and support. The IAC runs a number of interesting courses and workshops for inter-country adopters. Croydon residents can access these courses at a reduced rate.

Lesbian and Gay Foster and Adoptive Parents' Network supports lesbians and gay men who are interested or involved in fostering or adoption and raises the profile of the issue.

Overseas Adoption Support and Information Service (OASIS) offers a wide range of advice and information on inter-country adoption.

Paternity/Adoption leave and pay for inter-country adopters - for information on rights to paternity/adoption leave and pay see the www.dti.gov.uk website.

Post Adoption Centre provides independent advice, counselling and support to anyone affected by or dealing with the challenges and opportunities of adoption. In addition to advice and adult counselling, there is a programme of groups and workshops on adoption issues. Croydon residents can access these courses at a reduced rate.

National Organisation for Counselling Adoptees and Their Parents (Norcap) is a self-help group for adopted adults and their birth and adoptive families. They also maintain an adoption contact register.

Natural Parents' Network (NPN) is for natural parents and relatives who have lost children to adoption. Their helpline is open Monday-Friday 9.30am – 11.30am.

Natural Parents Support Group supports people separated by adoption. Write to the address given to be put in touch with your local co-ordinator.

Talk Adoption is a freephone, national helpline for adopted people under the age of 26.
