Our Specialist Rehabilitation Workers provide a community-based service to Croydon residents. Our aim is to enable people to regain skills lost due to visual impairment.
Services
We offer advice and information regarding visual loss and the registration process, including:
- specialised skills training
- comprehensive specialist assessment
- specialist equipment to maximise skills
- environmental audits
- Advice and referrals to other organisations/agencies, including obtaining literature on tape
- Deafblind Service, for deafblind adults
A weekly advice session is offered to anyone who requires help or information relating to visual impairment. These sessions are held every Thursday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Contact us through Social Services for Adults.
Eligibility and referral
We work with people who have been medically assessed as having a significant and permanent sight loss and are experiencing functional difficulties due to this.
You can be referred in three ways:
- through your local hospital eye unit
- through your local optician
- By contacting the Social Services for Adults referral team who will take your information and pass it on to us
We will carry out an assessment of your needs and work with you to decide the best way of meeting the needs we have identified.
We try to make sure that people are protected and supported, as well as being helped to live independently in the community. This includes support for those caring for others.
