Who is the service for?
- people aged 65 and over with mental health problems living in Croydon
- people aged under 65 with progressive memory problems
- families and carers (for support services).
What services are offered?
Outlined below are a number of services we offer. These are also listed on the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust website under 'Clinical Services Directory' (see associated link at right).
Community mental health teams
The community service consists of three community mental health teams (CMHT):
- Central Croydon CMHT for older adults, Morland Lodge
- North Croydon CMHT for older adults, Queens Resource Centre
- South Croydon CMHT for older adults, Purley Resource Centre.
The teams comprise psychiatrists who specialise in older adult psychiatry, community psychiatric nurses (CPNs), mental health support workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, care managers and administrators who work together to provide a package of care tailored to the individual's needs.
Chelsham House inpatient unit
Providing assessment and treatment for people over 65 years with acute and/or ongoing mental health problems.
Day services
The day service in Croydon consists of three day centres:
- Morland Day Service
- Bensham Day Service
- Coleby Satellite Day Centre.
The centres enable older people to remain in the community by maintaining or improving the quality of life of the older person or their carer through social contact and therapeutic activities.
Croydon memory service
A multi-disciplinary team offering a comprehensive assessment, diagnostic and treatment service for individuals experiencing mild to moderate cognitive decline consistent with an underlying dementia, regardless of age.
Psychological therapies service
This service offers a comprehensive range of psychological therapies across Croydon including cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, solution focused therapy, grief counselling and person-centred counselling. The service also offers dementia care mapping to residential and nursing homes within the borough of Croydon.
Amberley Lodge continuing care establishment
Amberley Lodge provides continuing care facilities to the older adult population of Croydon. The unit is managed by Care UK, a private healthcare provider, contracted directly to Croydon Health Authority.
Who can refer?
Generally, the service accepts referrals directly from GPs as well as other professionals in health and social care (eg GPs, doctors from Mayday Hospital, social workers or district nurses).
Requests for information can also be made to the Croydon integrated mental health of older adults service information officer.
