Blue badge for disabled people

We provide parking bays throughout Croydon for vehicles used by blue badge holders.  Some disabled bays are provided near shops, hospitals, places of worship, leisure areas and other community facilities.  Disabled bays are also created in residential areas as a result of applications by local residents who are blue badge holders.

Who can apply for a disabled parking bay?

Disabled badge holders can apply to have a parking bay created outside, or close to, their home address.  In addition to being a blue badge holder, there must be a vehicle registered at the applicant’s address (though the applicant need not be the registered keeper) and there should be no off-street parking available to the applicant.

Who can use disabled parking bays?

Disabled parking bays are provided to assist with the mobility of the disabled applicant, and not for the convenience of their spouse, partner, carer or other able-bodied family member.  In fairness to other residents, a bay will not be provided in circumstances where it will remain predominantly empty.  For this reason, we do not provide disabled parking bays for use by medical workers, ambulances, Dial-a-Ride vehicles, taxis or other visitors attending the needs of the disabled person.

Disabled parking bays cannot be allocated exclusively for the use of the disabled applicant, but may be used by any vehicle displaying a valid blue badge and complying with the European blue badge scheme.

Applying for a disabled parking bay

If you wish to apply for a disabled parking bay you will need to complete an application form.  An application form, and guidelines, can be obtained by contacting the Parking Design Team.
