Find out more about community-based energy-saving initiatives in the Croydon area.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is an efficient way to generate both heat and electricity for large buildings or housing estates.
There are three small CHP installations in Croydon at Mayday Hospital, Shirley Oaks Hospital, and Purley Swimming Pool.
There are no community-based CHP schemes in Croydon at present, however, Beddington Zero Energy Development (BedZED), located in the neighbouring borough of Sutton, is the UK’s largest carbon-neutral eco-village. BedZED comprises homes, community facilities and workspace.
Croydon Council is exploring the potential for CHP networks in the Town Centre as a means of reducing carbon emissions.
