Education for sustainable development

The Eco-Schools Award scheme helps schools with education on environmental issues and sustainable development. It links learning to action; it stimulates creativity and increases motivation.

It helps fulfil aspects of citizenship, and can contribute across the school curriculum, particularly in science, geography, literacy and numeracy. It can also help with the Healthy Schools Scheme.

Local support can be provided, to make the scheme easier. This can consist of:

  • an introduction to the scheme for staff
  • assemblies on environmental issues and introduction to the scheme for schools
  • ongoing support with ideas, resources and contacts
  • response to any other requests from schools
