Getting rid of resaleable furniture or electrical goods

If you are disposing of furniture or electrical goods which are in a re-usable condition, don't dump them or recycle them get them reused by donating them so that they can be given a new life and can help others..

Appliance Reuse Centre (ARC)

Croydon ARC is a charity that has been set up to provide furniture and appliances to local people on limited incomes. We collect used appliances and furniture for local councils and accept donations from members of the public. We take them to our workshops where our engineers test, repair and refurbish the items so that we can sell them in our showroom at low cost to our customers.

As part of our social business initiative, and working in partnership with Job Centreplus, Croydon Voluntary Action, Mencap we also provide work experience for people trying to get into work either after a period of unemployment or as a result of their medical condition. Many of our volunteers have learning and other disabilities.

Croydon ARC offers the following goods and services:

• Free collection of good re-usable donated furniture and appliances.
• Collection of furniture and appliances which we will not be able to repair and reuse ( A charge is made for this).
• Test, repair and refurbishing of domestic electrical appliances including cookers, fridges, washing machines etc. These are fully serviced and safety tested and come with a six-months guarantee.
• Test and repair of small home appliances.
• Delivery of furniture and appliances bought from our showroom (A small charge is made for this dependent on the delivery address).
• Installation of washing machines, dishwashers and electric cookers bought from our showrooms (A small charge is made for this).
•  House clearances.
• Local Furniture removals

All goods are offered at affordable prices and a 20% discount is available to customers receiving any of the following benefits - Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance, Disability or Full Housing benefit. Written proof is required before the discount can be arranged.

Donations

There is great demand for good-quality used furniture and appliances and we are extremely grateful for donations. If your donation meets our needs, you will be helping us make a real difference to someone's life.

Donations of small items can be dropped in to our showroom if you are nearby but for larger items we provide Free Collection of good re-usable furniture and appliances using our own vehicles.

If your donations are not suitable for re-use then we will explain why we cannot accept them for a free collection. We are always willing to collect them and get them recycled for you for a small charge. Please ask us for details.

We are particularly interested in donations of:

• Washing machines and tumble dryers
• Fridge freezers less than 10 years old
• Electric ovens, cookers and hobs
• Microwaves
• Wardrobes
• Beds including double, single and bunk beds
• Chests of drawers and cabinets
• Sofas and arm chairs

Soft Furnishing

Please note that all soft furnishings must carry a label stating that they comply with the relevant regulation and are fire resistant.

Easing landfill

By donating your used furniture and appliances to us so that we can repair or refurbish them and sell them to our customers we are not only helping our customers improve their living conditions we are helping the environment by extending the life of the products and reducing the amount of products that go to land fill. Where we are not able to repair or refurbish an item so that it can be reused then we ensure that it is recycled properly through authorized recycling organizations ensuring that it does not end up polluting the environment by being dumped!

So your donations really will make a difference to the landfill burden and to those trying to get by on limited budgets.
