Initial Catering Services are committed to ensuring the safety of customers who have an allergy to nuts and peanuts.
It is our policy that within all Nursery and Primary schools nuts are not used as an ingredient in either kitchen prepared dishes or bought in products. It is our policy that within Secondary schools where dishes contain nuts a warning label is used at the counter to enable clear identification by pupils.
The food products purchased for school meals are constantly reviewed with regard to the potential presence of nuts/peanuts. Although we ensure that our suppliers are directed that we are not to be supplied with any foods known to contain nuts/peanuts or their derivatives it is impossible to guarantee that all our products are 100% free from peanuts/nuts. This is due to suppliers increasingly stating that products are not free from nut contamination due to airborne contamination.
Initial Catering Services holds a database of all the children known to have a nut allergy enabling us to contact parents quickly to inform them of products that unexpectedly contain nuts and have entered the kitchen.
