London Borough of Croydon

Appointment of newly qualified teachers

NQTs in Croydon receive half a day a week for induction activities and 10% PPA time.  This provides time for you to interact with colleagues. It also reduces your teaching load, leaving you free to prepare materials and work programmes, and gives you time to get to know your school and its practices. You will be assigned a mentor, who is a volunteer colleague from your school, to give advice and support.

Besides support from the school, LEA offers tutor group meeting and curriculum sessions. These act as a forum where you can meet other NQTs and exchange information and ideas. Visits to the Professional Centre, local libraries and places of interest widen experience and provide a more global view of education in Croydon. We have a comprehensive and well established support and development record through our innovative Primary Tutor Head Groups. We have also been identified nationally as a model of good practice.

Croydon LEA is committed to providing high quality professional development for its teaching staff. The highly acclaimed Professional Development service (Croydon QDI) provides a wide variety of CPD programmes from NQT induction through to headship, including the option of accredited CPD.
