Nursery school places
Admission to nursery school/classes
If your child was born between 1 September 2004 and 31 August 2005, he/she has entitlement to the provision of free nursery education for five half day sessions each week, from September 2008, ie from the beginning of the school year in which he/she reaches four years of age.
Some nursery provision is made directly by the LA (local authority), ie in nursery schools, early years centres and in nursery classes attached to primary schools. Application should be made direct to the nursery schools and early years centres.
In addition to the provision made by the local authority, there are very many registered independent nursery providers serving local children. For information about these and other provision for younger children, ie parent and toddler groups and childcare facilities, you should contact the Children's Information Service on 0845 1111100.
