Childcare Sufficiency Assessment
From April 2008 local authorities will have a duty to secure sufficient childcare for parents in their area (section 6 of the Act).
In preparation for this duty, all local authorities have to carry out a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment to ensure that there is sufficient childcare to meet the needs of parents who work and study, now and in the future.
To do this, Croydon Council has hired Erskine Research, a specialist in childcare sufficiency assessments, to consult with parents, children, employers, community groups and providers of childcare to ascertain present and future childcare needs.
By developing a clear and concise picture of the childcare needs of Croydon residents, we aim to identify gaps and issues of concern and develop a strategy for addressing these.
Your opinions are important to us and will help to ensure that quality and accessible childcare is provided throughout the borough.
The council has now published its Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, which is available to read on the downloads below. It will be subject to annual reviews, with a new assessment undertaken on a three-year basis.
