Winning beacon status in the local strategic partnerships and local area agreements category has singled Croydon out as the only borough in London to receive top level recognition for this key approach to service delivery.
Croydon's approach to partnership working has led to some impressive results. The main elements recognised by the awards are:
- strong, embedded partnership ethos
- mature and trusting relationships within the partnership
- well defined structures and strong principles of equal representation
- extensive engagement and involvement of local communities through Community Network, thematic partnerships and sub groups
- strong ambition and focus on delivering outcomes based on local needs
- progressive and forward thinking and also willing to learn from its experience and change if necessary.
Being Beacon Council is not only an accolade for excellence and innovative ways of working but it is also about sharing knowledge and experiences with others and inspiring them to improve. Over the coming 15 months Croydon will be undertaking a dissemination programme to share its excellent practices with other authorities through:
- targeted marketing with a range of activities.
- working with government departments to influence policy in this area.
- producing a range of case studies.
- organising various events such as open days, seminars/conferences and workshops.
