The 'Increasing Voluntary and Community Sector Service Delivery' Beacon Status award is very much in recognition of the open and trustworthy relationship it has with its voluntary and community sector. To win, the council had to provide evidence showing a mature working relationship and active involvement with the VCS in all aspects of the work. Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA), a lead partner, is celebrating its centenary this year and the award is a fitting tribute to its work.
The main elements recognised by the award are:
- Involvement of VCS in planning and delivery of services
- Embedded compact way of working.
- Croydon’s capacity building work with other agencies and joint commissioning resulting in increase in providers
- Commissioning arrangements and focus on developing capacity within the voluntary sector.
- Integration of local area agreement blocks into the structures of LSP of which voluntary sector is a key part.
Being Beacon Council is not only an accolade for excellence and innovative ways of working but it is also about sharing knowledge and experiences with others and inspiring them to improve. Over the coming 15 months council will be undertaking dissemination programme to share its excellent practices with other authorities.
These would include;
- Targeted marketing with a range of activities.
- Working with government departments to champion policy in this area.
- Conference on embedding the third sector in public services.
- Producing a range of case studies.
- Organising various events such as open days, seminars/conferences and workshops.
