The Standards Committee is responsible for promoting and developing standards of conduct and ethical governance across the council and to hear complaints of breaches of the Members Code of Conduct referred for local investigation by the Standards Board for England. The Committee meets regularly to consider reports on matters of probity and ethics regarding Members of the Council and officers.
The Committee's functions include:
- monitoring compliance with the local Code of Members' Conduct, including agreeing guidance on, and the granting of dispensations from requirements relating to, interests as set out in the Code;
- setting and overseeing the Members learning and development programme as it relates to ethical governance and the Code of Conduct;
- considering issues referred by the Standards Board for England to the council and then taking the appropriate action;
- reviewing and overseeing development of the council's whistle blowing and corporate complaint procedures and the use of those procedures;
- supporting the statutory role of the Monitoring Officer.
