London Borough of Croydon

Improving day and residential care

Having signed the contract with Caring 4 Croydon in December 2006, we are now looking ahead to the next stage of the project ensuring it becomes a reality in delivering Homes for the Future for Croydon's elderly population. With this in mind, the project has been renamed from New4Old to 'Homes for the Future (New4Old)'.

The new homes will open as follows:

Fellows Court (formerly Coleby Court) - July 2008

Heavers Farm Resource Centre - September 2008

Addington Heights - April 2010

Langley Oaks Resource Centre - June 2010

To ensure that the timetable is met, a revised programme structure chart has been developed which splits into two key work streams:

  • Construction

The construction of the four new buildings is being undertaken by a company called Geoffrey Osborne Ltd, who are also a key stakeholder of the Caring 4 Croydon consortium.  Rob Bollen, a Project Manager in the Council’s Asset & Facilities Management Division will be overseeing the build programme on behalf of the Authority.

  • Service Transformation

As well as having the benefit of four new excellent facilities, plans are in hand to ensure that when the first two facilities are ready next year our staff and residents and day care users are fully prepared for the transition.

A Service Transformation Group made up of professionals from Croydon Adult Social Services, Croydon PCT, SLaM (South London & Maudsley (NHS) Trust), Age Concern Croydon, Croydon Alzheimer’s Society, OPeN (Older People’s Network) and Eldon Housing Association will take this work forward.  The group will be lead by Andrew Maskell, Strategic Change Management Manager within Adult Social Services.

On 8 June 2004, the New for Old Cabinet Committee approved the Outline Business Case (OBC) for submission to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) and the Department of Health (DH) to confirm availability of PFI credits for the scheme.

Key milestones for the project from September 2004 to December 2006 are highlighted in the table.
