What is a LINk?
A LINk is a network of local people, organisations and groups whose aim is to make sure that local health and care services meet the needs of local people.
A LINk will give you the chance to say what you think. Your involvement could help to improve services. There will be a LINk in every local authority area that has responsibilities for social services.
To find out more see LINks explained - Department of Health website.
What will the Croydon LINk do?
- Croydon LINk will encourage and support you to put forward your ideas and suggestions to improve services.
- It will work with local health and care professionals to make sure your views are heard so that services can change for the better.
- It will give you the chance to check how health and care services are planned and run.
What services will the Croydon LINk cover?
Croydon LINk will look at all health and social care services in the borough that are funded by taxpayers. It will not matter whether they are provided by the NHS, the local authority, a private company, a social enterprise or a charity.
Croydon LINk will feed back this information to the people responsible for running health and social care services so that, if things have been going wrong, they can be changed for the better.
Croydon LINk will not take over from groups that are already working for the community. Instead Croydon LINk will bring together the whole community and will have certain statutory powers. This should make it easier for groups and individuals to be heard.
How is Croydon LINk being set up?
Each Local Authority has received a sum of money from the Department of Health. They have used this money to pay a ‘host’ organisation to set up and support the LINk. This is to ensure that the LINk remains independent from any of the main health and care providers.
The Shaw Trust has been appointed as the ‘interim host’ organisation in Croydon. They will stay as the ‘interim host’ until the end of this year. An open tendering process is currently taking place to appoint the permanent host.
How can you become involved?
Contact Tom Magill or Peter Durrant at the Shaw Trust. They will send you an introductory pack that will tell you all you need to know about becoming involved with Croydon LINk.
