National fraud initiative
We are participating in an exercise to ensure that public money is being spent wisely.
Since we are responsible for protecting public funds, we may also share information with other bodies, in order to prevent and detect fraud.
Our auditors are appointed by the Audit Commission, and they are asking us to participate in an anti-fraud initiative.
We will provide details of staff and pensioners to the auditors so they can compare these with information from other public bodies. This will ensure that no salaries or pensions are paid to persons who are deceased or no longer entitled to them, and that income is being declared for benefit assessment purposes.
Participation in this exercise is a key part of our pro-active anti-fraud programme which is fully endorsed by members.
Please contact us with any information you have.
