Croydon Council's health scrutiny committee has called for a special local session at which those responsible for taking forward the future development of the Brighton Road site can set out the latest position. The speaking panel is expected to comprise representatives from local health trusts together with local councillors and council officers with responsibility for health and regeneration issues.

The meeting will be held in the Purley United Reformed Church Hall, next to the hospital, on Wednesday 24 September, starting at 7pm. There will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions and comment on the plans.

Said health scrutiny committee chair, Councillor Lynne Hale: "The War Memorial Hospital is dear to the hearts of many local residents. Last month the health scrutiny meeting was told that further information would be available in the autumn. We are therefore looking forward to hearing what this is and we are sure that many local residents will also be interested.

"We regard the development opportunity of this site as a real chance for the council and health authorities to work closely to get an excellent local health facility on track, which will also fit in well with the regeneration plans for Purley."
