For over 16s there will be the chance to try out street dance, salsa or bouti-licious - a body conditioning class working the lower body. The martial arts team will be running sessions with karate, box fit and tae kwon do and the sports hall will hold basketball and football skills coaching sessions for two age groups - the five to nine-year-olds and those aged 10 to 15.
Each afternoon there will be a giant inflatable in the main pool and fun splash sessions in the learner pool - great for little ones to gain water confidence.
In the gym, the Quadrathon Challenge will be taking place, using treadmills, rowers, cross trainers and static cycles. Anyone's welcome to come down and clock up a personal best. Contestants will be divided up into three age groups and the fastest time recorded in each over the weekend will win one of a number of prizes on offer on the day.
If you've wondered just how fit you are and want some tips on how to get fitter, you can book into a free Body MOT with one of the trainers. The MOT takes just half an hour and covers simple lung function tests (such as blowing into a tube), working out your percentage fat as well as your BMI from your weight and height, a muscle function test and a brief cycling test to measure cardio vascular activity. You then get your own workout programme.
Cllr Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: "Thornton Heath Leisure Centre has been a fantastic success and has been providing the borough with top class sporting and leisure facilities since it opened five years ago. I would encourage residents to go along to the open weekend to help celebrate and try out some of the exciting activities on offer."
