Adult and community learning centre opens in New Addington

The brand new, fully-landscaped building opened on 2 June and will offer a wide range of learning, training and community facilities under one roof for residents in New Addington and the surrounding area. Courses available will include beauty and nail technology, childcare, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), English and maths.
Local people will be given a chance to tour the building and enrol on courses during the open day, which runs from 10am to 4pm. CALAT staff will be available to discuss what is on offer and there will be free taster sessions and practical demonstrations.
Services provided at the centre will include:
- a youth office housing the Croydon Youth Team and Connexions, with specialist support from the primary care trust
- an advisory service centre offering appointments to help those looking to get back into work
- childcare provision
- community space
- information point
- a drop-in flexible learning support centre
- fully-equipped classrooms including a state-of-the-art IT training suite and beauty therapy suite.
Croydon's cabinet member for children's services and adult learning, Councillor Maria Gatland, said: "This fantastic building provides a real opportunity for New Addington residents. I hope the centre will act as a focal point for the local community and that local people will make full use of the facilities, whether it be by signing up for a new course, accessing the information and support available or making use of the open space specially provided for their use."
