This will be the second year that Croydon has filmed the annual event, which is taking place in the council chambers at 1.45pm, through its webcast service.

Residents who are unable to attend will be able watch the ceremony using this link.

The ceremony will see school children from across the borough join community leaders and residents from all cultures and religions to remember the victims of the Holocaust.

It will also celebrate the diversity of our community through a programme of music, poetry, presentations and testimony and reflect on those whose lives have been lost or altered as a result of genocide, persecution and racism.

Participants will include students from the BRIT School and Addington High School, Croydon Synagogue (which is marking its centenary this year) and Cllr Steve O'Connell, deputy leader and cabinet member for safety and cohesion.

The event begins at 1.30pm when the Deputy Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Brian Udell, lights a candle and signs the book of remembrance in the Town Hall foyer.

Cllr O'Connell, said: "As we remember the victims of the Holocaust, the ceremony is also an opportunity to think about how we can stand together to counter intolerance and exclusion today.

"This is a free event and I would encourage people to come along and show their support."
