The week starts with a swing with a Bollywood dance event at Thornton Heath Library on Saturday 17 May. For those more interested in horticulture, members of the council's parks team will be hosting a gardeners' question time at Central Library on Monday 19 May from 2pm to 4pm. The team will use their expertise to answer gardening queries and offer advice while promoting Croydon in Bloom.

During the week there will be a number of drop-in information sessions at libraries across the borough including visits from the Active Lifestyles team to promote healthy living. They will be at Ashburton Learning Village on 20 May and Selsdon Library on 22 May between 10am and noon.

Many of the libraries will be offering free ‘Introduction to the Internet and Email' taster sessions and Sanderstead Library will be holding an ‘Internet Mind Games' session on Monday 19 May which includes Sudoku, Scrabble and chess.

If you are interested in volunteering, the Croydon Volunteer Roadshow will be visiting a selection of libraries to offer advice and information. To find out about conservation projects in Croydon and volunteering with the British Trust of Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), visit Selsdon Library on Tuesday 20 May when Dave Johnson from BTCV will be answering questions from 2pm to 4pm.

For those who need help with their CV, job application or information about courses available to enhance career prospects, regular Next Step careers sessions will be held at the Central Library and Thornton Heath library.

Croydon's cabinet member for culture and sport, Councillor Steve Hollands, said: "Adult Learners' Week is all about celebrating and raising awareness of the fact that we all learn everyday, often without realising it. Whether you want to gain new skills or qualifications to get a promotion at work, or want to learn more about a subject you're interested in, why not use the week as the trigger to get you into adult learning?"
