Local people are being encouraged to get active this autumn as a new programme of Active Lifestyles courses is launched by Croydon Council.

Adults of all ages, shapes and sizes living and working in the borough are being given the opportunity to get fit and become more energetic and healthy by signing up to the September/October programme.

New courses on offer include a cycling course, designed for those who can already ride but need confidence on the road. While a limited number of bicycles are available, attendees are asked to bring their own, if possible.

Active Lifestyles offer a wide range of courses to suit every ability, even those who have never exercised before, and regular courses include Argentinean Tango, T’ai Chi, legs, bums & tums, aerobics, golf, Latin dance, Pilates and Yoga.

Fully qualified instructors are on hand to assist participants who want to either learn new skills or just to enjoy taking part.

To accompany the new programme, the council is also launching a new ‘Walk Croydon’ leaflet with details of health and nature walks. It aims get local people exploring the beautiful green spaces surrounding Croydon and gives some interesting facts about Croydon Cemetery.

Active Lifestyle brochures are available at local libraries or can be viewed online at www.croydononline.org. To book a course, ring Croydon Clocktower box office on 020 8253 1030 or visit the reception desk.

If you have any ideas for new courses or would like to receive a 'Walk Croydon' leaflet, contact Active Lifestyles manager, Sue MacLaughlin on 020 8726 6900.
