Babies and toddlers who took part in Croydon Libraries' Bookstart Book Crawl will be gathering in Croydon Central Library to receive their certificates from the Deputy Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Robert Askey, at 11.30 am on Thursday 4 September.

The Bookstart Book Crawl which took place over the summer in all Croydon libraries is designed to introduce babies and toddlers to books and reading. To be eligible to receive a certificate, parents enjoyed sharing four books with their babies.

This summer all libraries ran a special weekly Bookstart Book Crawl morning which proved very popular. Croydon Libraries welcome children under five and offer weekly Rhymetimes for babies, Wiggle & Jiggle sessions for toddlers and Storytimes for preschool children.

Croydon Council's cabinet member for culture and sport, Councillor Steve Hollands, said: "Children benefit enormously if they are introduced to books and reading from an early age. Babies and toddlers are very welcome in all Croydon libraries and in this, the National Year of Reading, we hope the Bookstart Book Crawl will encourage children to enjoy a lifelong love of reading."
