A first in the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the iconic London Olympic Handover Flag will be raised simultaneously in locations across the UK as far apart as Unst in the Shetland Isles and Land's End in Cornwall.
Croydon Council's cabinet member for culture and sport, Councillor Steve Hollands, will raise the flag and will be joined by members of Croydon Rugby and Football Club and Croydon Gymnastics Club.
Councillor Hollands said: "With the handover of the Olympic Games from Beijing to London these are extremely exciting times for culture and sport, and a great opportunity to inspire our Croydon residents to get involved. This is just the beginning of the Olympic and Paralympic journey for London and we hope that over the next four years there will be opportunities for our communities to participate in sport and culture, and share in the opportunities of the Games."
