You told us, we listened, we're still listening
Your priorties are our priorities - and we would still like to hear your views - to help us to improve services for all.
We know that you think having clean streets is an important part of making somewhere a nice place to live. In February 2008 we asked 1100 local residents what were their main areas of concern and litter came third after crime and council tax. In the 2006 Best Value Survey, 61% of residents were satisfied that we kept the borough clear of litter while 22% were dissatisfied. Many of you clearly thought there was a need to improve this service.
We have responded by increasing how often streets are cleaned across the borough. All streets in Croydon are now cleaned at least once a month, and busy areas like the town centres are now being cleaned several times a day.
As a result, the amount of litter on our streets has been reduced. An independent street inspection by ENCAMS in 2007-08 found that 98% of the streets they inspected were kept clean of litter and detritus and 100% of our streets were clear of substantial levels of graffiti and fly-posting (see assoicated link).
We hope you will notice the difference in your local community but if not, please let us know. You can report fly-tipping, graffiti, abandoned vehicles, vandalism, dog fouling and pollution either online, by text or by telephone. For more information click on the 'See also' link.
Reporting environmental problems does make a difference. Offensive graffiti is removed within 24 hours of being reported and over 90% of abandoned vehicles are removed within 24 hours of our receiving legal permission to do so.
