About building schools for the future

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) is the government's flagship scheme to invest money in our schools. They have committed to rebuilding, or renewing nearly every secondary school in England over the next fifteen years. As part of this programme Croydon is being given in excess of £350m to invest in Croydon schools to make them fit for the 21st Century.

Local Authorities across the nation are making the most of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest in their schools. In the past only small grants have been available to repair schools or add single buildings when needed. This programme gives a unique opportunity to completely start again, and make some radical choices on what Croydon really needs to improve education for all.

Why BSF?

The schools across Croydon are a mixture of buildings - some dating from Victorian times all the way through to more recent additions. Quite often they are out of date and hinder the delivery of education. Society is changing rapidly with the advent of modern technologies and changes in the way we behave and interact. BSF gives us the opportunity to create facilities that reflect this modern society, and are flexible for changes that may happen in the future.
