Annual governance report 2005-06

The Audit Commission (The Council's external auditors) is required to produce a report each year to those charged with governance once the audit of the Council's accounts is complete.

The principal purposes of the report are:

  1. To reach a mutual understanding of the scope of the audit and the respective responsibilities of the auditor and those charged with governance;
  2. To share information to assist both the auditor and those charged with governance to fulfil their respective responsibilities; and
  3. To provide those charged with governance with recommendations for improvement arising from the audit process.

The report makes three recommendations which support measures that the Council is already taking to lead to a further strengthening of the Council's finances.
