Better futures for children

With the involvement and co-operation of local children, Croydon has published its first Children and Young People's Plan, a single, strategic overarching plan that sets out how all local services will work in partnership to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people in the borough.

The Plan, produced by the Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership, sets out Croydon’s vision for its children and young people.  It defines the main priorities and looks at how all those working with young people can work together to deliver joined up services.

  • Being healthy - disability equalities; sexual health; no worries; tackle health inequalities; no drugs
  • Staying safe - help parents; reduce bullying; help vulnerable children; improve looked after services; tackle crime
  • Enjoying and achieving - staying in school; things to do - places to go; help where it's needed; even better schools
  • Making a positive contribution - volunteering and mentoring; reducing crime; dealing with challenge; contributing to service improvement; developing business minds
  • Achieving economic Well-being - housing; beyond school - choices for everyone; income and outcome - help where it's needed

These five priorities are central aims of the Children Act (2004) which requires all local authorities to have a Children and Young People's Plan (CYPP). 

The plan is based on information gathered from a wide range of sources and has been shaped and informed by stakeholder conferences, events with children and young people, families and carers, the Local Preventative Strategy, and the Annual Performance Assessment (inspection) data.
