The UK Youth Parliament in Croydon

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) is a national charity aimed at giving a voice to young people aged 11-18 on a local and national level. Every year young people are elected from different areas to represent young people.

In February 2008 young people in Croydon elected Chloe Cunningham and Lokkei Wong as Members of Youth Parliament and Melvin Kurankye and Richard Serunjogi as Deputy Members of Youth Parliament. They will represent the young people of Croydon and, along with the UK Youth Parliament Action Team, put together campaigns to promote their interests.

This year the Action Team's aims are:

  • to raise awareness of the UK Youth Parliament and what it can do for young people
  • to find out how young people feel about the services available to them in Croydon
  • to represent these views to people who make decisions in Croydon.

The team is currently visiting youth groups and community events in view of helping them achieve these aims.
