Community Action Plans
Community Action Plans (CAPs) are pioneering projects for the Housing Department, targeting local authority housing estates across the borough.
They are plans of action to address key community issues. They are based entirely on the expressed needs and aspirations of local residents and are developed in partnership with community representatives and key service providers.
The aims of CAPs are to:
-
influence local service providers to change or improve existing services
- develop new projects or services to address these local needs and aspirations
- encourage and enable communities to make a difference in the long term
So far the Community Development Team has worked in the following areas:
- Handcroft Road
- Shrublands
- Waddon
- Monks Hill
- Tollers
- Norwood Junction
- Croftleigh
- Green Lane
- Whitehorse Road
CAPs have provided:
- sports coaching
- housing management, money advice, employment and police surgeries
- computer training
- video and drama projects
- social clubs for the elderly
- installation of recycling bins
- installation of play equipment
- community art projects
- environmental improvements
- health and fitness classes
- community cohesion via. social events
All of the above were possible because of the effective involvement of local residents who participated in various ways i.e. applying for funding, promoting activities etc.
Housing’s Community Action Plan programme has also complemented neighbourhood renewal projects within New Addington and Fieldway. Residents are now able to access information via. notice boards, LCD information TV screens and welcome signs for the estate.
We have also financially supported community-led projects and events which enhanced relations between residents in New Addington and Fieldway neighbourhoods.
