Are they necessary?

Lighting a bonfire can cause nuisance to your neighbours. It can be distressing to persons suffering with asthma or bronchial problems

Think carefully before lighting a bonfire:
Consider alternative ways of disposing of your refuse

It is an offence to cause a nuisance from lighting a bonfire

Lighting Bonfires

If you must have a bonfire observe the following rules:

  • Site bonfire in a remote area of the garden
  • Burn only dry material
  • Douse fire once material is consume by the fire to avoid smouldering
  • Never leave a bonfire unattended
  • Consider your neighbours!

Remember it is an offence to cause a nuisance from lighting bonfires.

Getting rid of rubbish

Domestic rubbish will be accepted free of charge at Council Civic Amenity Sites. For details of locations and opening times contact Public Services and Works.

Alternatively, hire a skip for bulk refuse from a local company.

The Law

It is an offence to cause a nuisance from lighting a bonfire.

Persistent offenders will be prosecuted by the Council and be fined up to £5000.
