What do Neighbourhood Wardens do?

Housing Neighbourhood Wardens support local communities by:

getting to know residents
helping to develop a community spirit
building up trust and engaging positively with young people
working to reduce crime, fear of crime and improve community safety
caring for the environment by reporting abandoned vehicles, graffiti, fly-tipping and damage to communal facilities

Wardens are not police officers and they have no direct enforcement powers but they will:

patrol the neighbourhood on foot and by bike wearing their uniforms
observe and report problems
get to know local people and shopkeepers and meet new tenants
support vulnerable residents of all ages including victims of crime or harassment
work to gain trust between residents, the council and groups and agencies providing community services
listen to young and elderly people and get involved in activities

By offering:

information about local services
witness evidence gathering if you are experiencing harassment or anti-social behaviour

All wardens wear a distinctive burgundy uniform which bears the council logo, and they carry identification photographs.
