The Register Office holds records relating to births, deaths and marriages that occurred in Croydon dating back to 1837.

You may apply for a copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate by post or in person but there is no need to make an appointment.

To get a copy of a marriage certificate, you need some information relating to the couple concerned:

  • venue of the marriage
  • date of the marriage
  • full names of both parties (for the woman, her surname before marriage).

The fee is £7 for each certificate.

Note: General Register Office (GRO) references do not apply at the Croydon Register Office. If you have one of these references, you can apply for a certificate from the General Register Office.

Payment

Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to 'Croydon Council'. Cheque guarantee card details, i.e. card number and expiry date, are also required.

If applying by post please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope and your phone number.

If applying from outside the United Kingdom, you need to send an international money order drawn on a British bank in pounds sterling.

Note: we are not able to accept Canadian postal orders.
