Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) history month is held every year in February. It celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community. Croydon is committed to celebrating its diversity and that of the society as a whole.
The idea came from School's Out!, a campaigning organisation of LGBT people involved in education. They took their inspiration partly from the US, where LGBT history month has been celebrated since 1994.
In Croydon we want to celebrate the past and present LGBT community, and are running a series of events throughout February, not just for the LGBT community, but for everyone in Croydon to come and experience this unique history.
Local LGBT groups such as Crocus, Croydon Trans Group, Croydon's Area Gay Society and Insight are working with the council to put on a series of events which will take place throughout the borough. These events are designed to raise awareness and celebrate the contribution made to the life of the community.
