Croydon Sanctuary project
What does the project do?
If you are eligible for the scheme, a crime prevention officer will carry out a security survey of your home and recommend security measures. We will then arrange for a specialist contractor to carry out the work.
Eligibility
To qualify for and benefit from this scheme, you must meet some of the following criteria:
- you would be prepared to leave your home if the security work were not done
- the police must be aware of or investigating your situation
- you must be receiving support from an appropriate agency as a result of domestic violence
- you must live in the borough of Croydon
- you must have the legal right to change locks on the property.
Do I have to be a council tenant?
No, the scheme is open to everyone. We will need to ask for the landlord's permission if you are a private or housing association tenant. Housing associations may be asked to contribute towards the cost of the work.
How do I refer a friend to the scheme?
The best way is to contact one of the following agencies and work through them:
- Croydon Domestic Violence Advocacy Service - 020 8239 8845
7am to midnight - Offers help and support for people experiencing domestic violence. - Croydon Women's Aid - 020 8679 8848
Offers emergency accommodation for women and children escaping from domestic violence. - Victim Support - 020 8681 7711
Trained volunteers offer free support and practical advice to victims of crime. - Community Safety Unit, Family Justice Centre - 020 8649 1850
Investigates domestic violence, harassment and hate crime.

You can also come to Housing reception, Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm, and ask to see the Sanctuary Project administrator.
