- Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park has been managed by Croydon Council since 1947 and is a lawn cemetery. A lawn cemetery differs from a 'traditional' cemetery in that no kerbed monuments are permitted. At Greenlawn, the previous owners incorporated a covenant that the only type of memorial allowed are bronze tablets set into the ground. This creates a pleasant visual effect of a continuous area of lawn and permits both an economic and high standard of maintenance to be achieved. The major benefit of this is that grave-owners are relieved of most maintenance responsibilities and liabilities. The council is the sole supplier of the bronze memorial tablets.

Memorabilia regulations
As a result of public consultation and our wish to meet the needs of people who visit Greenlawn Memorial Park, there are regulations regarding items which may be left on graves or cremation plots and the sanctum vaults.
On each plot the regulations allow one plastic trough, which can be purchased from the council or from elsewhere, sunk to the rim and planted with flowers, plants, artificial flowers, etc. and containing memorabilia which must be contained in the trough only. The troughs must be dark brown or green, and a maximum size of 40cm long, 16cm wide and 13cm high. The overall height of any item within the trough cannot exceed 30cm.
Alternatively, up to two standard black, green or silver unbreakable flower containers, sunk to the rim and containing flowers only. The flower containers shall not exceed a ground area of 15cm by 15cm. The overall height of any flowers within the vases cannot exceed 30cm. Troughs and vases should only be placed at the foot of the grave or plot and at the rear of any memorial.
Christmas wreaths may be placed. They will be removed about 1 February each year.
Items of memorabilia temporarily left on a grave immediately after a burial will be removed along with the floral tributes not less than 10 days after the burial.
At the sanctum vaults, a facility for one flower container has been provided and no additional vases or other items will be permitted on the vault, in the adjacent shrub beds or on paved areas.
The council retains all ownership rights to the leased burial and cremation plots.
The following are not allowed:
- vases or troughs which overlap the boundaries
- glass items
- food and drink
- memorabilia not contained within a trough
- chippings, pebbles or fencing around the grave or plot
- troughs which are too heavy to be moved by our staff when cutting grass.
All non-regulation items will be removed without notice.
Thank you for your help in assisting us to maintain Greenlawn Memorial Park.
