Day services for people with learning disabilities

Cherry Orchard social businesses

Cherry Orchard garden centre

The garden centre provides work experience for service users with learning disabilities. Trainees help run the business by:

  • sowing seeds
  • pricking out plants
  • potting up
  • pruning
  • taking cuttings
  • top dressing the plants
  • making up hanging baskets and patio pots for sale to the public.

Work experience in the garden centre is for people who qualify for a day service. The joint community learning disability team decides whether a person qualifies, following a needs assessment.

Day places in the garden centre can also be combined with a place at the Cherry Orchard day centre or one of our resource bases.

If you are interested in work experience in the garden centre, contact social services for adults for more information (details below).

Cherry Orchard grounds maintenance team

Under supervision, the team maintains the grounds of social services and local housing association sites across Croydon and beyond.

We provide work experience and teach grounds maintenance skills, such as lawn mowing and trimming, to adults with learning disabilities.

If you are interested in work experience with this team, contact social services for adults for more information.
