Resource bases for adults with learning disabilities

What is a resource base?

Resource bases encourage you to have a greater say in the kind of day service you receive and enable you to do more activities out in the community. 

There are four resource bases in the borough: Beulah, New Addington, Peter Sylvester and Whitehorse. There is also a day centre called Cherry Orchard. 

We can decide with you which option would be best, a day centre or resource base.

What service will I get?

We aim to give you a place at your nearest resource base and can offer advice on how best to get there, be it on your own or with support.

We will encourage you to take part in various activities in your community such as:

• health walks (Active Lifestyles)
• exercise (gym)
• ten pin bowling
• snooker
• swimming
• arts projects
• visits to libraries, museums and exhibitions
• outings to places of interest.

We will also support you to visit markets, cafés, pubs and local shops and to meet up regularly with friends.

We have strong links with adult education, voluntary and paid work organisations and the Leisure Link forum (see associated link).

We regularly discuss and develop new activities based on the views and interests of people using our service.
