Birth - amendments to certificates
If you were not married at the time of registering your baby's birth but now wish to add the father’s details, you will need to re-register the birth.
To re-register a birth, you must provide the following:
- The child's original birth certificate
- The date of the parents' marriage
- The parents' marriage certificate.
If you are adding the natural father's details to the birth record, you must complete form GRO185 before making an appointment.
Complete form LA1 if the natural parents have married each other and would like the birth record to show that your child is a child of the marriage.
