Help on consumer matters is available for young people in schools and colleges through a variety of educational websites.
Ask CEdRIC
This website sets out to provide teaching notes and plans, student worksheets, practical activities, class and school projects and other resources for schools. Finance for young people
pfeg (personal finance educational group) is an educational charity that has set out to make sure that all young people leaving school have the confidence, skills and knowledge in financial matters to take part fully in society.
Their website, aimed at children and young people aged 4 to 19 supports teachers working with a range of advice and resources suitable for pupils of all ability levels, as well as reflecting different social, economic and cultural backgrounds. Consumer competition - PlaySafe
The British Toy and Hobby Association, in alliance with the Trading Standards Institute run an annual competition inviting children to design a safe toy.
Pupils entering the competition can be as creative as their imaginations allow in designing a toy for a child aged between 3 and 7 years. Toy safety is paramount and practical advice is given for use by both pupils and teachers. Use the associated link PlaySafe competition to find out more.
Young Consumers of the Year
Young Consumers of the Year is a unique competition that involves schools from across the country, that rise to the annual challenge to become the nation's top young consumers.
Co-ordinated by the Trading Standards Institute, it invites teams of four aged between 14 and 18 years old to compete in a knockout quiz, held in June, which test on a range of consumer issues including:
- Consumer Rights and Responsibilities
- Money and Finance
- Food and Health
- Safety and the Environment
- Europe

Proof of age cards
Trading Standards has been working in conjunction with the CitizenCard scheme and many schools in the area have issued these cards to their pupils.
