London Borough of Croydon

Paying by direct debit can help you budget

We offer our direct debit payers a choice of four different payment dates - the 1st, 5th, 15th or 25th of the month. Only direct debit payers have this choice. All other council tax payers must pay by the 5th of the month.

If you pay other bills by direct debit, such as for your mobile phone, satellite/cable television, gas or electricity, you already use direct debits to help you budget. Why not do the same with your council tax? All you have to do, once the direct debit has been set up, is make sure that you have enough money in your bank account to cover your council tax.

How to set up a direct debit

The quickest way to set up a direct debit is to do it online using the 'Council tax direct debit instruction' link at right. Or you can phone us on the number below and we will take your bank account details over the phone.

If you prefer to fill in a direct debit form, you can download a copy of the form at the bottom of the page, print and complete it and post it to the address on the form.

Remember - if you miss any of your payments you may have to pay extra costs. Court costs are £97.30. Bailiff fees can be hundreds of pounds.

Web survey

We are keen to learn your views about the council tax pages on our website. To complete our quick, online survey click on the 'associated' link at right.
