- The role of the Rent Service

If you pay your rent to a private landlord or housing association we may have to ask the Rent Service to provide us with a rental value for your home.
This will be the figure we use to calculate housing benefit. It may not be the same as the amount you actually pay your landlord.
From April 2008 the Rent Service will be responsible for setting the levels of the local housing allowance, which will be used to calculate the rent level for some private tenants.
About the Rent Service
The Rent Service is an independent organisation and is not part of the council.
